So how far does giving assent go? for example, let’s say a child needs a shot to stay healthy, but the child doesn’t want the shot. Do we not give the child the shot?

If an adult with special needs chooses not to eat to the point of starving themselves to death….
I know of some places that will not put hands-on it all even if a child is running out into the street.Because that is what the child chooses to do.
Is this assent???
